Measuring Power
Powering the 2019 Toyota Highlander is a standard 2.7L four-cylinder engine that produces 185 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, the four-cylinder turns the front wheels and achieves an EPA-estimated 20 MPG in the city and 24 on the highway. The available 3.5L V6 packs a punch, turning out a peppy 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. Not sacrificing efficiency, the V6 actually achieves better fuel economy than the four-cylinder, achieving an EPA-estimated 21 MPG city and 27 MPG on the highway with the standard eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 2019 Nissan Pathfinder comes with a standard 3.5L V6 engine that produces 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. Though the Pathfinder isn’t as powerful as the Highlander, it is nearly just as efficient. Paired to a CVT transmission, the Pathfinder returns an EPA-estimated 20 MPG in the city and 27 MPG highway. Both SUVs come with intelligent all-wheel drive for optimal traction, allowing more confidence on the road.
Always Looking Out For Danger
Toyota takes safety seriously, and it’s evident in the 2020 Highlander. Standard on every Highlander is Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS-P), a comprehensive suite of automated driver-assist safety features.
First on the list is Toyota’s Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, which uses radar to detect the position of cars or pedestrians in front of you. If the system detects that a collision is possible, the 2019 Toyota Highlander will apply the brakes to avoid or minimize the effects of a collision.
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control uses radar to monitor the position of the vehicle ahead of you. The system can adjust your speed to maintain a safe distance, minimizing the threat of a collision.
Another of the many features highlighted in TSS-P is Lane Departure Assist with Steering Assist, which constantly scans the road markings to monitor your position in your lane. If you drift out of your lane, your Toyota will send an audible and visual alert, while using steering assist to gently nudge you back into place.
The 2019 Nissan Pathfinder also comes with its own version of driver-assist safety features. Always keeping an eye ahead, the Pathfinder uses radar to monitor vehicles ahead of you. If things come to a sudden stop or if a vehicle darts ahead of you, the system will alert you and apply emergency brake force if needed. Another nifty feature on the Pathfinder is its Blind Spot Warning with Cross-Traffic Alert, it will monitor your blind spots and alert you if you attempt a lane change. While reversing, the system will alert you of approaching traffic on both sides.
Cabins Built for Everyone
The 2019 Toyota Highlander features several seating configurations, including seating for up to eight passengers. The Platinum Package even includes second-row heated captains chairs so everyone can travel in comfort. No matter where you sit in the Highlander, you get to enjoy the silence of the hushed cabin. Thanks to acoustic-type glass and even a sound-insulated floor, things are kept quiet in the cabin, while an available panoramic roof opens the cabin up to the sun-lit sky above. Available Rear-Seat Entertainment includes a nine-inch screen with two sets of wireless headphones keep rear passengers entertained, while a 6.4-inch touchscreen display keeps you connected to the fast-moving world around you.
In the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder, the available Driver Memory System will adjust your seat automatically to your desired position, while your steering wheel and seats can be configured to heat upon startup; providing you with a warm welcome on chilly mornings. Available tri-zone entertainment lets rear passengers ride and never miss the latest shows, play video games and more while listening on two wireless headsets.
